Tudou VS You-tube

It is very hard for me to say which one is better. You-tube and Tudou are both great online video sharing websites. Some people say that Tudou is already bigger than You-tube. I think You-tube and Tudou are different. You-tube have more users because You-tube is very universal. Tudou is more limited in Chinese users only. I think You-tube has more home-made video, and Tudou has more TV shows and movies.

Convenience: Tudou keep track of which episodes of TV show one watched in a play list, so one does not have to remember it every time. That is something I really like and You-tube does not have. Tudou have all the other functions that You-tube has. So I think Tudou wins in this one.

Political Freedom: Tudou is more limited in political since it is in China, You-tube has more political freedom.

I liked both site, and I use both sites. I watch movie videos on You-tube more, because the streaming is faster in You-tube. However, people say that You-tube's streaming is very slow in China and Tudou's streaming is very fast. I watch TV shows and movies on Tudou because they don't have the time limit and Tudou has a very neat play list for TV shows. They are all categorized very neatly.

Tudou's affection

Tudou and other video sharing website affected Chinese people a lot. Especially the young generation who are younger than 30 years old. A lot of young people doesn't even buy television anymore, because people can find everything online for free now. I don't think Tudou has affected the older generation that much yet, because my dad would rather to go to the video store and pay for dramas and movies.


Bad or Good?

Tudou could be bad and good for different groups of people.

Tudou is good for most of people, because there are so many videos on Tudou. Tudou's update of videos are so fast, and users of Tudou upload things from all over the world. Such as Gossip girl, the users of Tudou record it and translate it into Chinese then they will upload it onto Tudou in less than 3 days. If it's dramas from China mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan, it is even faster, users of Tudou will record and upload the videos in less than three hours. People does not have to pay a penny to watch the videos, and they can watch videos from China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Korea, Japan, United State of America, United Kingdom and other regions any time any where. It is so convenient comparing to television, and the users who upload the videos even deleted the Ad, which saves time for the people who does not want to watch the Ad.

Tudou is bad for the people who actually make dramas, movies and TV shows. A lot of people doesn't watch movies anymore - why would one pay 80 Yuan for a movie when the movie will be available online after a few weeks? People doesn't spend money on buying albums anymore , because the music and videos are all online and one can always download it.

Tudou(Chinese:土豆网) is a Chinese online video sharing website which is similar with You-tube where users could upload, view and share videos. Tudou is the biggest video sharing website in China. The word Tudou means "potato" in Chinese and the name comes from the idea of "couch potato." There are more than 7 millions registered users on Tudou and Tudou is founded by Gray Wang in 2005 at Shanghai, China.

There are more than 300 million videos on Tudou and more than 50,000 new videos are added to Tudou everyday. Tudou does not limit the length of the video like those in You-tube, so their total amount of minutes are about 15 billion minutes which is a lot more than those on You-tube - 3 billion minutes.

Tudou is my favorite Chinese online video sharing website because the design of the website looks very nice and users on Tudou upload a lot of videos. It is a very good website for watching dramas, better than You-tube, because that Tudou does not have the time limit of 10 minutes like as You-tube does, so it is more convenient than You-tube. There are other Chinese online video sharing website such as Youku and 56.com, but I like Tudou better, because I like the website design of Tudou better than those of other websites. I rarely watched television anymore after I found Tudou, because Tudou is so convenient comparing to television, one can watch whatever they wan any minute.
